Updated: Aug 30, 2020

Robert "Bob" James Walsh passed away on June 10, 2020 at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke, MA. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on October 7, 1935 to the late Margaret and James Walsh. He grew up in Poughkeepsie and enlisted in the US Army in 1958, serving 6 years. After serving in the military, he worked for the USPS in 1964 as a letter carrier, holding various positions within the USPS over the course of his career.

In 1965 he married Theresa Delasandro at St. Anthony's church in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated with an Associate's Degree from Queens College in 1974. Bob worked as a maintenance supervisor at the United States Post Office Bulk Mail Center in Springfield, MA until his retirement in 2001.

Bob leaves behind his wife, Theresa Walsh of South Hadley, his daughter Tina Walsh and grandson Ethan Spivey of New London, CT, his daughter Theresa Walsh and her husband Robert Ouellette of South Hadley, his niece Nicole Cervone of Poughkeepsie, NY and his nephew Claude Miller of Scottsdale, Arizona. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Miller.

Bob enjoyed going to the Chicopee Senior Center, listening to the music from the 1950's, especially Buddy Holly, and meeting his retired USPS coworkers for lunch. Bob was also an avid fisherman, a hobby he enjoyed with his wife and daughter Theresa.

Bob was part of a cohort of high-risk Holyoke Soldiers' Home residents that had been transferred to Holyoke Medical Center as the Covid-19 pandemic hit. We truly appreciate the care, kindness and compassion that the nurses and doctors at the Holyoke Medical Center gave to Bob while he was in their care.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at a future date. Williamsburg Funeral Home has been entrusted with his cremation, for online condolences please visit hampshirecremation.com. Memorial contributions can be made to the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke.
