Pamela Janes Goodrow, 82, passed away peacefully at Care One in Northampton, after her three children said their goodbyes. Pam, as family and friends knew her as, was born on November 24, 1943 in Northampton to the late Lee Stanford Janes and Monica Murphy Janes. Pam grew up in Northampton and graduated from Northampton High School. She continued her education with the Sisters of Providence in Holyoke, MA, earning a certificate in childcare. She taught at Clarke School for the Deaf for 32 years.
Pam dedicated her life to teaching and helping children learn. She had great love for the students in her classes. Her dedication to her students was extraordinary. She used all the plants and animals on campus and nearby to show them nature's wonders: maple tree seeds hidden in "helicopters and whirlybirds;" the white oak acorns that the gray squirrels ate and buried outside the classroom and the rainbow of colors in autumn's fallen leaves. It was not unusual for her to be stopped in the grocery store or at a gas station and be recognized by one of her former students or their families and reminisce with her on their time at Clarke.
Before physical limitations became reality, Pam was an avid gardener. She took pride in her home and all the beautiful flowers and plants found in her yard. In her later years, Pam continued her green thumb to include beautiful house plants.
Pam (Mom's) true joys in her life were her five grandchildren and two great grandsons. She would often take them on nature walks, teaching them about the various plants, insects and animals they would see. They would always look forward to them and spending time with mom.
Mom will be greatly missed by her three children: her son, Raymond H Goodrow III and his partner Maryann Ramos of South Deerfield, her daughters, Laura McGrath and her fiancée Jerry Buzzee of Hatfield, MA and Elizabeth O'Connell and her husband Corey of Greenfield, MA. Her five grandchildren; Amanda McGrath, Meghan Lamica (Nick), Hannah Goodrow (Chase), Samuel McGrath(Caitlin) and Conor O'Connell. Her two great grandsons Greyson Lamica and Turner McGrath, as well as numerous nieces and nephew. Her brother Erich Janes(Marilyn) of Easthampton and her sister Heather Benoit(Paul) of Jericho, VT.
There are three special people who we would like to acknowledge who were deeply loved by Mom and helped her living in the home she loved for as long as she did. Her cousin, Robin Fields of Morehead City, NC, her caregiver and forever our family member, Nancy Divoll and her best, lifetime friend, Sandra Chiminello. Their support and love for mom will never be forgotten.
Per her wishes, there will be no services.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Mountain Street Cemetery in Haydenville. A celebration of life will be held at the Bluebonnet Diner Banquet Room in Northampton on Saturday, Sept. 12. Updates on the start time will be posted on the Williamsburg Funeral Home in Haydenville website.
