The light in our little corner of the world dimmed on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with the peaceful passing of Beverly June McDyer Hambright (age 89) in Ware, Massachusetts. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing, and undoubtedly felt the love from family and friends near and far.

She was born Beverly Adams in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 14, 1936 to her parents Lawrence Adams and Fern Phelps. Beverly survived polio as a young child. Though she had lasting physical difficulties as a result of polio, she never let that stop her from living a full and active life. She resided primarily in Hastings, Michigan, until she was swept away by Luther “Don” McDyer. Together they traveled the world with the US Army. She lived in many states including North Carolina, Alaska, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, California and the countries of Iran, Egypt, and Japan. She had five children during this time. As a mother, she was able to manage a growing family through many wonderful and yet sometimes trying times. Raising five very young children while her husband was off fighting a war in Vietnam, she was able to maintain a loving and nurturing household. That marriage ended in divorce, after which she resided in Maine and Virginia. She eventually resettled to Hastings, Michigan, where she worked at Hastings City Bank for many years.

After her long-time partner, Orville Burgdoff, passed away, she decided it was time to move to a warmer climate, and she relocated to Tennessee. After establishing a home and living independently for a time, she met and married John F. Hambright, and they resided in Dunlap, TN. With the passing of her husband, John, she moved to Massachusetts to live near her daughter and son-in-law.

She was very artistic and often painted as a hobby, producing many pieces of artwork that she shared with everyone. Also, being an accomplished cake decorator for many years, she created cakes for all occasions, including beautiful wedding cakes.

In addition to her parents, Beverly is pre-deceased by her brother Larry Lisle; sister Dorothy Conklin and brother-in-law Laurence Conklin; husband John F. Hambright; previous husband Luther Don McDyer; and partner Orville Burgdoff.

Beverly is survived by all five of her children and their spouses: Kenneth (Judy) McDyer, James (Melissa) McDyer, Cathey (John) Nelson, Steven (Cathy) McDyer, and Edward (Shawn) McDyer; sisters Joyce (Ralph) Alvarez, Kay (Bob) Simington, and Peggy (Dan) Wilson; brother Terry Adams; step-children Joy (Mike) Supanich, Julie Wright (Bill Butzlaff), and John Hambright (Maggie Cardinale); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a multitude of friends.

She will be missed by everyone that knew her as she touched so many lives in her time with us.

A celebration of Beverly's life will be held in August 2026 in Hastings, Michigan. The family welcomes memorial donations made in Beverly Hambright’s honor to your local hospice organization.
