Carl Smith (1943 - 2018)

Carl Smith June 12, 1943 to December 18, 2018 Carl left us suddenly while playing his weekly game of pool. He will be missed by Candy, his wife of 50 years, his brother Charlie Smith, his children Shannon and George Wade, Shane Smith and Christy Aucoin, Shad and Tabby Smith, his grandchildren Eric Daley, Dan Daley, Levi Smith, Tanner Smith, Mekiah Smith, and Harper Smith. He will also be missed his extended family, friends and a large local community. He was predeceased by his mother, Marcia Bailey in 1999. He was a true human with all that encompasses. Everyone having their own unique experience with him (except for a few ubiquitously distributed jokes). He loved his family and becoming “Papa” to his grandchildren truly softened his heart. He certainly knew God in his own way. He was a passionate and competitive player of darts, pool, and weekly poker games. And above all, he loved his UMass basketball games. He loved the referees less. He was actively involved with the First Congregational Church of Williamsburg as a Deacon, and serving many years on the Board of Directors and Trustees. As a member of the Williamsburg Grange for nearly 50 years, Carl held an office the entire time. He took the 7th degree, the highest Grange degree, as ritual was very important to him. He was the go-to handyman for the Church and the Grange, much of it volunteer. As a skilled woodworker, the mark of his craftsmanship can be found throughout Burgy, the Valley and beyond. When people in his community had a project they needed done, they thought of Carl. If you knew him, you knew him. Due to the timing of the holiday season, a memorial service will be arranged and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Williamsburg Grange #225 ℅ Sue Snow, 36 Old Goshen Rd, Williamsburg, MA 01096
