Frances J. McCarthy (1935 - 2018)


Frances J. McCarthy was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on June 8,1935 to Sarah Frances (Gurley) McCarthy and Donald Joseph McCarthy. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Palmer, Massachusetts and graduated from Palmer High School in 1953. After high school Fran attended Emerson College in Boston receiving a Bachelors degree in Communication. Fran’s professional career included TV work at WBZ, lab manager at Children’s Hospital Boston and a teacher for over 30 years at John Robert Powers Modeling Agency also in Boston. Fran was an active member of the residents board for the Charlesbank Apartment Cooperative. She was a docent at the Boston Public Library for many years. Fran enjoyed the theater and jazz performances. She loved to travel and frequent area cat shows. Over the years she was a proud mother of 6 Burmese and Siamese cats. Fran passed on June 13, 2018 after a long battle with a respiratory illness. She is predeceased by her parents and sister Beverlyan M. Pasternak. Fran is survived by her brother-in-law Joseph F. Pasternak Jr of Chicopee. Her nieces Lisa Pasternak of Chicopee and Noel Connor, her husband Tom and their son John “Jack” of Prole, Iowa and nephew Joseph F. Pasternak III, his wife Dawn and their daughter Mia also of Chicopee. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Angell Memorial Animal Hospital MSPCA or The Perkins School for the Blind.
