Eleanor Mary (Scanzio) Piers


Eleanor Mary (Scanzio) Piers of Huntington, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. “Ellie” was the beloved mother of Dawne Piers-Gamble, Lorelei Piers, Wayne Piers, Craig Piers, George Piers, Jonathan Piers, Brad Piers and dear mother-in-law to Clark T. Gamble, Kimberly Piers, Rebecca Piers, and Megan Collins. She was cherished as “Nonna” by Ariel Gamble Gannon, Garrison Piers-Gamble, Ashton Piers, Taylor Piers, Conner Piers, Noah Piers, Karley Piers, Ryan Piers, Austen Piers, Emma Piers, Luke Piers, Ethan Piers, Benjamin Piers, Will Piers, Ben Piers, Caleb Gannon, Marisa Campanale and Christopher LaBrecque. She was “Great Nonna” to Jack Gannon.

Eleanor was born in Boston, MA and was the precious “baby sister” of Ernest Scanzio. She was a 1954 graduate of Jesus Mary Academy in Fall River where she made many lifelong friends, especially sisters, Mariette Gendreau and Monique Olivera (Clapin). Ellie graduated from Brockton School of Nursing as an RN and provided nursing care for 40 years at Noble Hospital in Westfield. Ellie was a proud and dedicated member of the CBs, a civic minded women’s group on Norwich Hill in Huntington, where she lived. There, she shared many happy memories with her neighbors and friends, most importantly Nancy and George Webb. After her retirement from nursing, she could be found baking and working at Outlook Farm in Westhampton for her dear friends Erin and Brad Morse.

Ellie was best known for her love and dedication to family and friends, her generous, thoughtful kindnesses, her beautiful voice, her handmade cards and her incredible creativity, and handiwork skills. Above all, she will be remembered for her capacity to love, her hopefulness, and her ability to listen to and inspire others.

Friends and family are invited to join Ellie’s family in celebration of her life at the North Hall on Searle Road in Huntington, MA on July 21, 2017, at 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Russell, MA on July 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM with a burial at Norwich Bridge Cemetery to follow.
