Letitia Blood Calderwood, born December 15, 1937 in Clinton, MA, and peacefully departed on February 7, 2026, lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and a down‑to‑earth spirit that made people feel instantly at ease. She had a gift for creating community wherever she went, and those who knew her will remember her warmth most of all.
Letitia was a woman of many talents and quiet joys. She loved the simple pleasures of life — bowling with her league, sewing with steady hands and a creative eye, riding her bike along familiar paths, and filling her home with music from the piano and accordion. These were more than hobbies; they were expressions of a life lived with curiosity, rhythm, and heart.
She devoted herself to helping others, especially young people. As a Girl Scout volunteer and a 4‑H leader in Burlington, Vermont, she shaped countless lives with patience, encouragement, and a belief in the potential of every child she met. Her generosity of spirit extended into her professional life as well. She worked as a hairdresser and later at the University of Vermont Medical Center, formerly Fletcher Allen Healthcare, where her gentle nature and steady presence were appreciated by colleagues and visitors alike.
Letitia will be remembered for her loving nature, her quiet strength, and the way she made people feel seen and cared for. She touched many lives simply by being herself — kind, grounded, and endlessly giving.
She was predeceased by her husband, Merle “Pete” Calderwood; her son, Peter Scott Calderwood; her parents, Edgar and Dorothea Spaulding Blood; and her siblings, Elizabeth Blood, Edgar Nelson Blood Jr., and Philip Spaulding Blood.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Calderwood, and Patricia’s spouse, Laura Bergstrom; her grandchildren, Ani and Quinn Caron; their half‑siblings, Amber Allen and Alexis Daigle‑Caron; and her great‑grandchildren, Noah, Eli, and Lawson. She is also survived by her caring nieces and nephews.
Throughout her life, Letitia made her home in Clinton, MA; Sterling, MA; Craftsbury, VT; Burlington, VT; South Burlington, VT; Easthampton, MA; and finally in Leeds, MA, where she peacefully passed away at Linda Manor.
The family would like to thank the skilled nursing and activities staff of Linda Manor for providing Letitia with the utmost care and attention. She felt deeply loved and well cared for in your hands.
A graveside service will be held in late spring or early summer in Craftsbury, Vermont, at the East Craftsbury Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Pete.
