Surrounded by her loved ones, Joan Christine Smith passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Baystate Medical Center at the age of 84. Joan was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on August 14, 1938, and grew up in Springfield. She was a graduate of Commerce High School. Her and her husband Stuart shared 65 loving years of marriage, and spent their retirement years in their home on Otis reservoir. Joan was fun and loving, and made all who she met feel like family. During her younger years she enjoyed many outdoor activities – mini bikes, motorcycles, snowmobiles, sailing, boating, waterskiing, swimming, gardening and fishing. She also loved to play cards and games; her brightest smiles and laughter could light up a room when being surrounded by family and friends. Her love to cook and host gatherings warmed her heart; and all that came to visit, never left hungry. Joan and Stuart together made the perfect team as they began their business venture and created “Clean-Brite Carpet Cleaners”. Their company was successful, and they were blessed to have met so many customers, many of which also became friends. They also worked with the West Springfield Church of Christ and the youth in the church for many years prior to their retirement. Joan is predeceased by her parents; Mr. William and Mrs. Signe Gale, as well as her sister, Lois Minkley. Joan is survived by her loving husband Stuart Smith; her daughter, Judi DellaMarco and her husband, Robert DellaMarco; granddaughter, Theresa Moran and her husband, Brian Moran, as well as her two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Hannah Moran. A celebration of life service is being held at the West Springfield Church of Christ at 61 Upper Church Street on Thursday, August 10th from 6-8pm.
